Transport Interchange
Rochdale’s new Transport Interchange has been given the go-ahead after funding for the scheme was announced by the government.
Advanced work for the retaining walls has already started on site and the main Transport Interchange construction will commence in April 2012. Click here to follow progress on the webcam.
The building will replace the outdated bus station in the town centre and will be adjacent to the Rochdale town centre Metrolink stop. The new interchange will provide improved passenger facilities and electronic passenger information displays. The site was cleared and remediated in 2008 using funding of £1.5 million through the Single Regeneration Budget. The demolition of the existing bus station along with the existing Municipal Offices will clear the space needed for the proposed new multi-million pound retail and leisure development.
