New library and offices
Sir Robert McAlpine is constructing the new landmark 'green' riverside building which will provide open plan office accommodation for around 2,000 staff from the Council and its partner organisations. It will also include a customer service point and a new public library.
Designed to be amongst the most sustainable buildings around, it will bring together staff from 33 buildings. The works are currently underway (click here to follow progress on the webcam).
The current Municipal Offices and Telegraph House will be demolished along with the bus station, making way for a multi-million pound shopping and leisure development. The building will be opposite the new Transport Interchange and town centre Metrolink stop on Smith Street .
