Leading prestige motor retail centre, Williams Rochdale BMW has been confirmed as title sponsor for Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run for the next three years.
Having backed the new runs when they launched last year, Williams BMW Rochdale have now signed a deal to sponsor the event, which returns this September, until 2018.
The announcement comes just weeks after registrations opened for the event, being staged on Sunday 25 September. Runners will get on their marks by Rochdale Town Hall and set out on traffic-free courses taking in town and countryside, including a stunning section that takes in Hollingworth Lake.
As part of the three year agreement the event will be called Williams BMW Rochdale Half Marathon, 10K and Fun Run. Williams, based on Gorrels Way off the A627M, will also provide an exclusive Rochdale Half Marathon branded BMW to promote the three runs as well as having a striking presence at the town hall during the day itself.
Rob Gower, Head of Business at Williams Rochdale BMW said:
“As a local family run business we’re always keen to support the local community and I know when we sponsored last year’s event it was a big success with runners and spectators as well as attracting competitors and publicity from across the region. Most importantly it also helps raise money for some fantastic charities and we are proud for Williams Rochdale to be the title sponsor for 2016-2018 and look forward to showcasing our innovative class leading BMW vehicles to everyone involved.”
The half marathon leaves the town hall along Entwisle Road, before heading towards Smithy Bridge down the canal towpath. Close to the Waterside Restaurant, the route leaves the tow path and heads down Hollingworth Road towards Hollingworth Lake, follows the edge of the lake and goes up Rakewood Road before turning round and following the other half of the lake. The route continues back down the canal, leaving close to Gordon Rigg Garden Centre and back down Entwisle Road to the town hall.
The 10K event heads up Newgate before returning and following the half marathon route along Entwisle Road. It continues down Belfield Lane to Milnrow Road. From here the route heads down Grafton Street and Crawford Street towards the canal towpath which it follows until it reaches Waithlands Road where it follows back to the town hall.
Looking to build on the success of the inaugural 2015 event, which attracted over 1,200 runners, race routes have been redesigned to attract even more runners and take in some of the borough’s best open spaces including Hollingworth Lake in Littleborough.
The fun run heads out from the town hall along Baillie Street and turns just before the crossroad on Smith Street.
Councillor Janet Emsley, Cabinet Member for Culture, Health and Wellbeing said:
“Having a nationally recognised brand and such a respected local business like Williams BMW on board gave a boost to the event last year and we are very pleased to agree this long term deal with them. We have ambitious plans to really grow this new sporting event and this renewed partnership will help an already successful event develop further, bringing benefits to the races and the runners. We are really looking forward to working with the group again.”
The event is organised by Cannonball Events, supported by Rochdale Borough Council.
