The Metrolink work on Drake Street has inevitably caused some disruption, with temporary footpath diversion routes in place during the works but the shops, independents and businesses on Drake Street remained open. The work is now complete with the fencing removed opening up Drake Street for pedestrians.

Plans for improvements to Drake Street and Wet Rake Gardens are being progressed starting with new street plates and blue plaques recognising Drake Street's important heritage.

Wet Rake Gardens will be enhanced by a package of works, including new lighting, benches, railings, wall repairs and the installation of a traditional red telephone box.

To improve the appearance of Drake Street, an important route into the town, a programme of small property improvement works is progressing with the owners of the properties identified for inclusion.

Other projects along Drake Street include trees in planters, litter bins, the installation of information boards and finger posts.
